Jun 7: POTPOURRI NIGHT

Potpourri meetings feature a series of short presentations on various astronomy and space topics given by members of the Mississauga Centre. The meeting is open to the public and is free. The meeting will be held Friday June 7 from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at The University of Toronto, Mississauga Campus, in lecture hall SE2074 in the William Davis Building.

John Marchese and Leslie Strike: “Preview of Starfest 2019”
Starfest is Canada’s (and one of the world’s) largest, annual star parties and it takes place only a couple of hours drive from Mississauga in August. Starfest is about dark skies for observing, great speakers, comradery and so much more. If you’re a star party newbie, we will let you know what to expect and we will preview Starfest 2019 specifically. We have had up to 40 Mississauga members and their friends attend past Starfests so, we will present our plan on how to share this experience as a group.

Manuel Guerrero: “Imaging Planets at Latitude 10”
Manuel will share his recent experience imaging Planets at Latitude 10 on the Island of Baru, near the Colonial city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. He had the privilege of sharing this lifetime experience with his friend Christopher Go, a well known planetary imager from the City of Cebu in the Philippines.

Enter off of Mississauga Road. Park in lot 4 or in the parkade across from the fitness centre south of the Davis Building. Enter through the Fitness centre, walk up the stairs until you reach the main corridor then turn right. (If you need an elevator, follow the corridor to the right of the stairs, then go up to the main floor). Look for the Mississauga Centre sign in front of the lecture room.

After the meeting, join us at at a local watering hole (location announced during the meeting) for more fun!
